Puerto Rico

Congratulations to the lovely bachelorettes Binal and Shetal!! “Anthonys Kittens” spent the weekend in San Juan, Puerto Rico and had a fun filled and amazing time! We stayed at the La Concha Resort in the Condado area. The hotel had beach access, pools and a club/bar scene. We ended up getting suites however I honestly recommend doing ocean view regular rooms if you have the options. The suites face the city and there are some loud clubs that play music late into the night. We all arrived into SJU at different times Friday and took a cab ride that is roughly $17 + $1/luggage piece to our hotel. Once we all were in and settled, we had a gift exchange and celebration for the brides-to-be before heading out to go on our bioluminescent kayaking tour. I arranged the tour through www.kayakingpuertorico.com which was $60/person and included transportation. They picked us up at 6:30pm and we did not return till midnight, so I definitely recommend eating before and bring snacks. They did provide a little snack after the tour along with water. So this was an amazing excursion, but kayaking was a bit tough. So if you have never kayaked, don’t make this the first attempt. Its very dark and almost a 30 minute kayaking adventure but with very experienced and patient tour guides. This excursion took place off the main land, there are other tours off the Island of Vieques, but you have to spend the night if you plan on doing that. I would recommend kayaking with this company if you are comfortable with kayaking, if not, look into a boat tour but DO NOT miss seeing this amazing site. The glowing waters were something all us girls will never forget.

The next morning at 8:15 we were picked up by Roberto from Sunset Tours to do our rainforest excursion. This was another great company and well knowledgeable tour guide, and I would recommend them. This was $50/person and included transportation also. Our tour began at the visitor center, and then next to Coca Falls to take a few pictures. We walked up ~96 steps in the tower to get a view of the area, and you could always just wait at the bottom if you didn’t want to do that. Next we got into the van again and stopped at a mini waterfall which was down an unpaved 10 minute path where we got to stop and swim! Our last stop was the 1.5 mile hike with a swimming opportunity at the larger waterfall. Definitely wear a bathing suite and water shoes and bring towels, bug spray and sunblock! Once we finished that we headed to eat, we all were starving, and Roberto took us to where the locals eat. We had lunch at Vejigante, which wasn’t bad at all, and our first taste of local Puerto Rican food. There also were plenty of vegetarian options. Once back at that the hotel, we all relaxed and got ready for a night out on the town!

We hired a cab company for the evening, Puerto Rico Cab Company (7875496058 or 7874478763). It was ~$20 for the entire evening with round-trip transportation. The bus was comfortable and we could play our own music and dance around! Saturday night we had dinner at Marmalade, I absolutely recommend this place! Definitely make a reservation and save 2-3 hours to indulge in all the amazing tapas, entrees and desserts! We ended up doing the vegetarian tasting menu which came out to be ~$100/person. There was plenty of food and the lamb entre and truffle pasta was to die for! The chef came out at one point also to ask us how we were doing! This restaurant is in Old San Juan, roughly ~15 minutes from out hotel. From there we headed to Club Brava at El San Juan Resort, luckily one of the brides had a hook up so we walked right in without cover and well ill leave the rest up to your imagination!

The next morning, we got up and headed to Old San Juan for brunch at St. Germain Bistro and Café. The menu is fairly preset for Sundays and was $20/person that included a hot and cold drink, lovely fruit salad and main entrée. Afterwards half the group went back to the hotel to go swimming and half of us shopped around. We hit up Indigo Sky for lovely pieces of jewelry, Nelson was a doll and loves Indian people! Ole was a great place to get panama hats for ~$60! For dinner that night we ended up back at El San Juan Resort for dinner at La Piccola Fontana, for a pricey but amazing Italian meal. By the time we got back, most of the group was tired, some of the girls however continued to enjoy themselves! 😉

One thing we noticed, AMEX isn’t used widely throughout Puerto Rico, so definitely take a Visa credit card or cash. The other thing is at restaurants if you have a large party they wont let you split the bill evenly with lots of credit cards.

The day of departure everyone pretty much fended for themselves when it came to meals. Some ate at the hotel, which had good food, and some of us went to Casa Lola, which was ~5-10 minute walk from the hotel. It was AMAZING Puerto Rican food with very good prices, so I 100% recommend this restaurant if you ever go! Get the mufungo, rice and beans and salsa!

All in all we all had an amazing weekend, these girls are like my sisters! I love them tons and cant wait for our next adventure together! We did miss one of our kittens, Sonal however! Congratulations Binal and Shetal and we cannot wait to party it up during your weddings! Love you!!
